We always ask ourselves: how can we make hair transplant more affordable? For many years we have made affordability our main goal ahead of advancing the science of hair transplant. Then we realize each time we try to advance the science of hair transplant we have also made hair transplant more affordable.

Advancing the science of hair transplant is directly related to making hair transplant more affordable. Good news is that our efforts in advancing the field of hair transplant has also made hair transplant more affordable for our clients. Only 4 months through 2013, it has been a very productive and innovative year for us and especially for advances in hair restoration and hair transplant.

In the first two months we spent quality time researching into augmenting graft survival rate and making innovative improvements in equipment that effect better hair transplant results and cost savings that we can ultimately pass to future hair transplant candidates. We are very excited about these significant achievements.

For many years the field of hair restoration has been struggling with what's called "external stressors". "External Sensors" such as heat and other environmental factors can damage hair grafts and decrease graft survival once they are cultivated from the donor area of the scalp and before successfully transplanted in the balding area of the scalp. From science and experiments we do know that heat or high environmental temperature can be a definite threat to graft survival. Over the past four months my staff and I have focused on these challenges.

In simple terms, graft survival means the patient gets more for his money. Although we know that our graft survival rate is already well above 95%, each innovation contributes to better results means more cost savings for the patient. On average every hair transplant case is about 2000 to 3000 hair grafts and each graft cost about 3 Dollars. Increasing grafts survival from 95 percent to 99 percent means hair transplant cost savings around 500 Dollars. This is very significant.

How we increase graft survival

We fight heat! We fight heat in every front while we perform hair transplant!

For many years scientist knew that LED lights do not emit heat compared to other lighting methods. Lights are used with the microscopes at the time of dissecting or separating each individual hair follicle. For many years finding microscopes that use only LED light and meet hair transplant criteria has been a significant challenge. We took it on our own to rectify this obstacle by using custom-made LED lights.

Investing in many right places, we have customized our microscopes to use light sources (LED) that emit no heat. Good news is that valuable grafts are not exposed to heat while being separated. Thus removing a key stressor. The best news is that we have also changed the medical exam light. The medical exam light is the one that is used to create the recipient sites on the scalp while I am doing my own work. The new one does not emit heat.

Are we done yet?

No! We can do even more!

Keeping valuable hair grafts at a constant low temperature throughout the entire hair transplant process has been and is a challenge for many hair transplant surgeons.

Many Hair Transplant cases can take between 10 to 12 hours of operation. The current standard in the industry is that a special petri dish cooler is used to keep the grafts cool. However, due to its inferior design, the grafts are kept between 12 to 15 degrees Celsius and the temperature changes as the ice within it melts. This is really not good!

We undertook the challenge of redesigning this cooler.

We have come up with a special design such that the temperature is kept at 2 to 3 degrees Celsius and there isn't much variation, even when the ice melts. This is a much superior design on what is already out there.

Our new petri dish design, which is currently patent pending, will enable a continuous adequate temperature for grafts throughout the entire procedure. This means more cost savings for the hair transplant candidates.

My Philosophy:

My goal as a dedicated hair transplant surgeon is to provide my patients with the best possible hair transplant results at the most affordable cost. I only perform one case a day so I can put my 100% attention to make sure everything goes well and the patient gets a superior result. I have assembled a dedicated staff and we all emphasize on one patient a day. This is our Golden Rule!

Besides what I have described above, I consider every patient a family member. In conclusion I like to numerate what we have accomplished as innovative factors for our patients in the past:

1) Implementation of a temporary and innovative surgical tape that is used on the scalp after every transplant. This surgical tape eliminates swelling around the face which can also reduce patient downtime significantly.

2) Modified cleaning and washing method. This method also allows better graft survival.

3) Use of an innovative massager and vibration technique that reduces discomfort during the procedure.

4) Developed a method that almost eliminates bruising after the procedure.

5) Developed a technique that eliminates ingrown hair after FUE procedures.

6) Devised a utensil used in creating sites during eyebrow transplants.

Athletic Quest Discovers Four Reasons to Ask for Help

There are times in the lives of student athletes when they need help beyond sports coaching and academic counseling. Knowing where and when to turn for help is a key to the success of many student athletes. That help may come from off the playing field as well as on.

Our coaches oftentimes play the role of mentor, says Coach John Scott, president and CEO of Athletic Quest, an expert team of current and former coaches. Their process involves weaving together a relationship between student athlete, parents, and Athletic Quest coaches oftentimes over the course of years. This relationship supports the entire family through trust and a connection that never takes a day off, continues Coach Scott. In addition to one-on-one mentoring with the student athlete, the coach frequently helps the family prioritize goals and make choices.

The student athlete and his/her family can request life mentoring suggestions from Athletic Quest coaches including athletic, academic, and ethical advice.

1. Low grades and poor academic performance? Ask for help.
Of the nine evaluation criteria established by Athletic Quest to assess a student athletes competitive level, four are academic and five are athletic. The importance of academics is obvious. Athletic Quest has even consulted with academic professionals and developed its own unique program for accelerating study skills and elevating grades.

Robert Turbin, now a rookie with the Seattle Seahawks, had to raise the bar academically to qualify for NCAA Division I. We worked closely with him starting at the end of his high school sophomore year, specifically on study habits and how to best prepare for SAT and ACT tests. To his credit, he was diligent and worked hard when he realized how academics impacted his athletic possibilities, reports Coach Scott. Robert received a full athletic scholarship to Utah State. He graduated and is now playing in the NFL.

2. When in trouble with moral issues, ask for help.
Life has lots of lessons, states Coach Scott, and some of the greatest outcomes involve painful processes. We urge our student athletes to ask for help when it comes to moral character, integrity, and citizenship duties.

We worked with a varsity high school student athlete involved in a hazing incident as a participator, not the victim. He was expelled permanently from his high school and transferred to another school as a sophomore. He had to sit out his junior year as an athlete due to transfer rules, explains Coach Scott. We spent a great deal of time determining how to approach this situation and how to best counsel this young man. We had him write a letter of apology to the hazing victim, the school, state athletic association, and his new school. Together we addressed what his moral goals were for moving forward as a young man. In his new school, even though he could not play sports for the next year, he set target goals, wanting to be a good example on and off the practice field. His objective is to be helpful with teammates and classmates, especially those less popular. The response hes getting from the new schools coaches and administrators has been overwhelmingly positive.

3. When puzzled about recruitment and scholarship strategy, ask for help.
Lauren Clayful attended the smallest high school in Kauai which makes her as far away as possible from mainland college sports. Lauren was a high school all-league junior, but had not heard from any college coaches. She was 61 and a NCAA Division III athlete. But heres the problem. No one knew she was out there. We helped get Lauren ready for college recruiting by mentoring her through this process, comments Coach Scott. She was off the charts academically and scored so high on ACTs and SATs that it placed her in the top 2%. As we guided Lauren through this journey, she went from hearing from zero college coaches to being recruited by 198.

Lauren attended Williams College, a Division III school and there are no athletic scholarships in that division. But towards a cost of $65,000 a year, with help from her Athletic Quest mentors, she received $52,000 without any athletic money. She asked Athletic Quest for help during her entire college term, and they are getting more funding for her sophomore year. When tryouts rolled around for the second year, however, she found herself struggling at the higher level of competition. After a 90-minute conversation with her Athletic Quest mentor, Lauren went from struggling to within a month playing significant finish for a Division III college program. The relationship isnt over; states Coach Scott, were with her for the rest of her college career.

4. Impacted by depression and bullying? Ask for help.
Athletic Quest coaches mentored another young man who went through a hazing incident as a junior. He was a successful, legitimate player. During captain practices in baseball several seniors would throw balls at him, belittle him and make fun of him. He was just on the verge of being on suicide watch, says Coach Scott. Because we were in constant contact with this young man, we knew what was wrong. Our mentor coach called the team captain and said, We have a problem. Is this the kind of captain and leader you are? Do you think this behavior is acceptable from your team? He responded by saying that he and another captain would hold a team meeting without the coaches. In the meeting they explained that anyone who belittles, incites, makes fun of, or is derogatory towards any other team member will not be tolerated, and that we as captains will insure that youll be thrown off the team. In a very short time there has been a total turnaround in the environment for that once-hazed student athlete and for the entire team.

We recognize that our Life Mentoring responsibilities include helping the student athlete become a solid, principled citizen within the athletic world, and within life in general, says Coach Scott.

Hi everyone. My name's Philip, and I want to share with you the experience I had with the Somanabolic Muscle Maximizer program developed by Kyle Leon. Kyle Leon, if you don't already know, is a nutritionist and fitness trainer with years of experience helping people to get the physiques they've always wanted. I was already familiar with Kyle's work, so when I found out that he'd put together a program which you can download online for $48.00, I was all in especially after watching these video testimonials with before and after photos from users of his program. I am crazy about fitness, but never was as ripped as I wanted to be.

The Program Structure

How does it work? Somanabolic Muscle Maximizer is a combination of dieting and exercising, both of which are aimed at helping you to burn fat and build muscle at the same time. One of the best things about the program is that it isn't a one-size-fits-all solution (which by the way doesn't exist). Instead, it is customizable based on your age, weight, body type, and even your lifestyle.

I'm a really busy guy with two jobs, a family to take care of, and other personal responsibilities and obligations. I don't have hours to work out every day, and I honestly wouldn't want to, even though I love fitness. The body needs time to rest. So I thought it was cool that I was able to tailor the program based on the amount of time each day and each week that I honestly could plan to commit. I'd tried programs in the past that placed huge demands on my time. I bet you can guess what happened. Since I couldn't follow through and those programs couldn't be easily customized, they didn't work for me. This one was different.

Four Different Formulas

The customization to the program takes the form of four patented formulas which Kyle and other nutritionists and fitness experts put together. It took them years to get this stuff ready for the public. Using the information that the program provides you with, you can calculate how many calories and macronutrients you need to be eating every day in order to meet your fitness goals. That's based on your activity level and body type. You get a digital calculator/menu system along with the eBook that provides you with meal plans based on your inputs.

The other thing that is great about having you supply your own activity level before calculating the diet requirements is that there really is no other way to eat right. A lot of people make the mistake of eating less and working out more. You can't do this without depriving your body of the nutrition it needs to put on muscle. It's an unhealthy mistake and a very common one--I made it myself in the past and paid for it. If you plan to work out more, the program will tell you to eat more. If you plan to work out less, the program will tell you to eat less.

Recommended Foods

What types of foods did I eat while I was following the program? There were a lot of vegetables: spinach, tomatoes, carrots, broccoli and leafy greens all figured into my diet on a regular basis. I also ate a lot of berries. Lean meat, especially fish and poultry, played a prominent role. Eggs were another big part of the diet, as were oats, flax seeds, and nuts. Yogurt and fish oil were also included.

Muscle Maximizer Exercise Program

The muscle training exercises include a variety of workouts designed to exercise different muscles in your body. Kyle's program is very conscientious when it comes to rest periods. You're encouraged to alternate the muscle groups you work out so that you give your muscles adequate recovery time to rebuild and grow after you work them out. Consistency is emphasized over duration or frequency. The most important thing is that you stick to the program based on the level of activity you select.

My Results

The most important part of this review of course is what Muscle Maximizer helped me to accomplish. As I said, I'd tried a few other exercise programs in the past. I admit that spending money on fitness is nothing new to me--but at least I can say now I'm probably done spending money on training programs, because this one is the last one I'll ever need.

I started with Muscle Maximizer 6 weeks ago. I haven't lost noticeable weight, in fact I have gained some weight but this is because I've been building muscle and I didn't actually have that much fat to burn in the first place. My clothes fit better, though, and when I look in the mirror I'm starting to notice that my arms are looking more toned, and when my shirt is off I can see a lot more contour in my abs and chest. This is just what I want as I didn't want to build much bulk but get lean instead. I am a lot happier with the guy I see in the mirror since I started doing the program.

This program does require time and discipline to follow through and get the ongoing benefit. There are a lot of things that make this easier. You get to choose what you want to eat to some extent, and there are a lot of recommended foods. You don't have to spend money on supplements or equipment, and you can customize the workouts based on what you realistically think you can work into your schedule, and then you calculate the diet plan from there.

This does take commitment and consistency, but that was the other great thing I got out of doing Muscle Maximizer. In the past, I thought the reason I couldn't put on muscle was because I had no follow-through. That was true to some degree, but it was also because I was picking programs that were too demanding. This program is more moderate, and it was great discovering that I was able to commit to meeting my fitness goals as a result. Discovering that self-discipline has been at least as exciting as building muscle. So if you think you can commit to a moderate, yet consistent approach to building muscle, give it a try! It not just about achieving your ideal body but also being able to maintain it, and this program being customizable helps in that aspect.

April 22-28: US VegWeek Puts Meat-Free Eating on the Political Map

There are 52 weeks in a year. Why not make one of them meat-free? That's the idea behind US VegWeek, a nationwide campaign empowering thousands of people--including federal, state, and local representatives--to pledge to choose vegetarian foods for at least seven days as a way to discover the many benefits and flavors of vegetarian eating.

Public officials taking the 7-day VegPledge include Texas Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, Arizona Congressman Ra Grijalva, California State Senator Ted Lieu, California Assemblymember Das Williams, Maryland State Senator Jamie Raskin, and Annapolis, Md., Mayor Josh Cohen, among others.

"No matter what you believe in, respect for animals is an important part of being human," stated Arizona Congressman Grijalva. "I'm proud to participate in US VegWeek to raise awareness."

According to Md. State Delegate Dan Morhain: "As the only physician in the Maryland General Assembly, I know the importance of eating a vegetarian diet in decreasing one's risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and a variety of cancers."

Calif. State Sen. Ted Lieu continued, "As a state policymaker, and father of two, I enthusiastically encourage everyone to participate in US VegWeek by treating themselves to more fresh fruits and vegetables that can lead to a longer, healthier life--and lifestyle."

Several jurisdictions have also expressed support through official US VegWeek proclamations encouraging residents to participate: Washington, DC, Tucson, Ariz., Montgomery County, Md., and Charlottesville, Va.

Additionally, dozens of businesses nationwide--including Loving Hut restaurants in 37 different cities--are offering US VegWeek specials, and everyone is invited to attend free events such as cooking demos, bake sales, movie screenings, and more.

Compassion Over Killing, a national nonprofit animal protection organization, first launched VegWeek in 2009 with inspiration from Md. Sen. Raskin. He was the first lawmaker to take the 7-day Veg Pledge, a pledge that continued beyond the first week and that he's kept to this day. Energized by his vegetarian diet, which he refers to as "aligning my morals with my menu," Sen. Raskin encourages others to make kinder, greener, and healthier food choices.

Foresters UK Teams Up with Operation Shoebox UK to Support Serving Soldiers

Foresters, the international financial services organisation, are proud to announce that they have partnered up with Operation Shoebox UK - an innovative mission which supports serving soldiers by sending them shoeboxes of necessities and goodies.

The idea of Operation Shoebox UK is simple - yet makes such a huge difference to the troops in Afghanistan - providing them with a shoebox full of much needed basics (such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and foot powder) to goodies (such as magazines, pens, and hot chocolate).

Most importantly, it reminds them that they are not forgotten.

Alexis Bovington, Membership Development Manager at Foresters, says: "As part of the partnership, we are asking our volunteer members to host their own events to create these boxes.

"Our volunteers will be asked to pack the boxes, and decorate them, and also write a personal message to include to the soldiers. If they want, volunteers can include their address for the soldiers to write back to them".

Two events are already planned for June in Birmingham and Huddersfield, with more in the pipeline, supported by volunteers both from Foresters and Operation Shoebox UK.

Childrens Obesity Fund Sponsors Hands for Hopes HopeWalk, 5k Walk and Kids Healthy Activity Fair

The Childrens Obesity Fund and its co-founders Julian Omidi and Michael Omidi, M.D. announce their sponsorship of the Hands for Hope 13th Annual HopeWalk and Activities Fair on Saturday, June 8, 2013 in Hollywood Park.

Hands for Hope offers the youth of North Hollywood and its surrounding regions with many valuable programs for their intellectual, artistic, physical and professional development, and we are proud to sponsor this fantastic event, says Childrens Obesity Fund co-founder Dr. Michael Omidi. Local events like the walk and the annual activities fair go a long way to inform young people of the healthy resources right there in their own communities, and we anticipate a fun and successful day for everyone.

The 5K HopeWalk began in 2001 as a way to encourage young people to embrace healthy lifestyles. The walk has been sponsored by local businesses and organizations, as well as major corporations including Wells Fargo, Disney, Whole Foods, Dole and Adidas. The Activities Fair was added in 2006 to give children and their parents the opportunity to participate in sports and fitness activities, receive nutritional and health guidance and enjoy healthy food tastings.

The day begins with registration at 8 am, and proceeds with a brisk walk from Magnolia and Tujunga Avenues to North Hollywood Park. Participants can then enjoy the events offered as part of the Activities Fair and Taste of Healthy NoHo, where local food venders give samples of their healthy culinary wares. Hands for Hope (hands4hope.org) offers programs for young people and single parents designed to help them become successful, happy and healthy members of society. SAS and Turkish Airlines commence code-share partnership

SAS and Star Alliance partner Turkish Airlines are today entering into a code-share agreement that offers Scandinavian travelers easy access to six destinations in Turkey.

As of today, SAS customers are able to book Turkish Airlines operated flights with a SK flight code on www.flysas.com (or with a travel agency) from Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Helsinki, Aalborg and Billund to Istanbul and further on to Ankara, Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman and Izmir. In addition, Turkish Airlines will add their code to more than 20 destinations in Scandinavia and Finland.

"We are very pleased to announce this code-share agreement with Turkish Airlines. Both tourism and trade between Scandinavia and Turkey have increased with double digit figures the last years, and we are happy to be able to offer our customers flights to six destinations in Turkey", says Joakim Landholm, EVP Commercial at SAS.

SAS customers will also be able to earn EuroBonus-points on all Turkish Airlines flights since both airlines are partners within Star Alliance.

Inventor Aurora Tyas launched her business with the support of the Prince's Trust charity as she specifically wanted to help people with mobility issues like her grandmother.

"I realised how difficult it becomes to dress and undress with limited mobility or after having surgery, so I designed Pop&Go Underwear with this in mind, aiming to create an innovative dressing aid for people who want to dress independently without needing to ask for help, and without having to resort
to ugly paper knickers."

The underwear is easy to use and the fasteners are very simple and comfortable, similar to those found on bodysuits and other clothing. The fabric is soft, durable and machine washable.
